Bull Shoals Lake at Buck Creek
> Subject: Report on Jan.27, 2010
>
> The lake has finally gotten down to a near normal level. Today it is 655.2 at noon, or only a foot above pool. Here in the mid-lake section the Crappie have been slowly moving up into the feeder arms and are being taken on live minnows under slip corks set 12 to 15 feet deep. Swimming Minnows on 1/16 ounce jig heads are also effective for the purists. The sizes are good running from 10 inches to 15 inches. Lg. Mouth and Kentucky Bass are hitting crank baits such as the Wiggle Warts and jerk baits, like Rogues and X-Raps. Suspending lures are performing best and worked slowly after getting the lure down as deep as it will run. Grubs have also performed well along these same channel banks, especially where submerged timber is present. On the main lake, channel swing banks with timber present, white grubs on 1/4 ounce heads have done fair on Small Mouth and Large Mouth bass as well as an occasional Walleye. This being the time of year when the Walleye move up lake to near the Pot Hole just below Power Site dam, reports of good Walleye catches are coming in with a local boy taking a 15 pounder. Jerk baits and shiner minnows seem to be best right now and we expect this pattern below the dam to continue for another 4 weeks or so.
